Photos of the serial killer were spread across the country throughout the day. And they especially caught the attention of the Philadelphia region’s eye because of one small but significant detail.

Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31 by climbing its brick walls. He was serving a life sentence for a horrific crime in 2021 when he fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend in front of her children. 

With the seriousness of his actions, it’s safe to say that Philadelphia residents wouldn’t react kindly if they encountered him on the streets. Some on social media joked that his choice of an Eagles sweatshirt may have inadvertently helped him evade capture at the end of the search.

During his two weeks on the run, Cavalcante struggled to find basic necessities and attempted to change his appearance by shaving his face. It’s likely that he stumbled upon the Eagles hoodie during his escape and used it to blend in. There were even jokes about him swiping it from someone’s backyard clothesline.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro also joined in on the fun

Following his capture, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro praised law enforcement for their relentless efforts and success. He also had a message for whoever lost their Eagles sweatshirt to Cavalcante, promising to get them one of the new Kelly Green ones. He said:

“Folks, whoever had their Eagles hoodie stolen, if you could let us know, I’ll do my best to get you one of the new Kelly Green ones, ok?”

In an ironic twist, this story reminded many of a local incident from 2019 when a burglar, upon being arrested, simply said, “Go Eagles” when asked if he had anything to say.

The Capture Details:

Cavalcante was eventually subdued by a police dog, leaving him with a bite wound that was treated at the site. Authorities assured residents that he would be returned to a state prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
